Driving Change

Working to four key themes, our long-term vision for fire safety aims to create a safer world, led by well-informed, competent and supported fire professionals:

1. Skills, development, and innovation
2. Trust and reputation
3. Organisational sustainability and engagement
4. Global influence and advocacy

1. Skills, development and innovation

The first step towards a safer fire future is to advance education, skills and innovation to lead worldwide fire safety. As the professional membership body for fire, we must enable a platform for learning and ongoing development underpinning the knowledge and expertise of fire engineers.

We will:

  • Enhance the educational and professional development opportunities available to equip our profession with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed
  • Promote a culture of continuous development and lifelong
learning to promote excellence within our field
  • Foster a culture of research, innovation and differing
    perspectives to lead intellectual discourse

2. Trust and reputation

If we are to elevate fire engineering internationally, it is important that we promote trust and showcase the respect, reputation and diversity of the sector. This is made possible through professional standards and ethics, setting a benchmark of quality that breeds trust amongst members and other stakeholders worldwide.

We will:

  • Promote fire engineering and its related professions as respected, meaningful and diverse
  • Uphold professional standards and ethical behaviours to build greater trust and confidence within our profession
  • Inspire and nurture the next generation of fire professionals and ensure the institution’s products and services support career advancement

3. Organisational sustainability and engagement

In creating advocacy, we can ensure that we embed organisational
sustainability and engagement into everything that we do. By actively engaging
with our members and continuing to grow the organisation, we can ensure
that the IFE continues to deliver with strong governance and leadership,
providing the guidance, support and networks required to drive change.

We will:

  • Actively engage with our members to make informed, evidence-based decisions to keep our organisation at the forefront
  • Build our capacity through enabling and empowering our volunteers and staff to create greater resilience and sustainable impacts
  • Ensure operational efficiency through strong governance and leadership

4. Global influence and advocacy

With strong foundations in place, the IFE will continue to advocate for fire safety on a global scale. Our activities will continue to drive global change, influencing agendas and empowering the fire sector to make a positive difference towards a fire-safe world.

We will:

  • Increase awareness of the tangible impact of fire safety on our communities, infrastructure, and our environment
  • Collaborate with policy makers and key stakeholders
to influence the fire global safety agenda
  • Empower and support our profession to inspire a fire safe world
